The War and Security Blog will mostly be about the history of warfare, but I will also comment on current national security issues. As I’m British, the focus will be mostly, but not exclusively, on the UK.
After studying economics at Edinburgh University, I worked as an investment analyst and fund manager for over 20 years, most recently specialising in the analysis of the global oil industry and oil companies. In 2006 I was awarded an MLitt in War Studies by Glasgow University. In early 2012 Glasgow awarded me a PhD at Glasgow for my thesis on ‘British Strategy and Oil, 1914-1923.’

Hi Martin, just stopped to say… nice blog! Clearly I was preaching to converted at Aye Write, regarding preparation & finding good subject matter
I also went to Edinburgh University, very fine establishment! Cat
Hope that I can follow your advice and produce as good a blog as your one. So far, I’m finding that I need more words than you suggested, but otherwise progressing well
Dear Dr Gibson – I’m so pleased that you enjoyed my Leningrad talk, and thank you for writing it up so fully and well. You are a great deal more succinct than I was! With best wishes – Anna.
Glad that my summary was accurate. You did a good job of putting across your arguments in a hour, whilst leaving time for questions.
I did not expect to meet other bloggers and get to know them just a little. Just want you to know I appreciate your support. I’m touched that a historian of your stature and expertise would read my blog. Best wishes Martin.
Hi Martin! I have been quietly, but thoroughly, enjoying your blog. So, to share your blog with people who visit my blog, I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Award. I hope you can accept. Either way, you can read about it at http://tkmorin.wordpress.com/awards/ Thanks for keeping us entertained, at the very least!
Thanks for the kind words. Will check out the Sunshine Awards.
